USA 2018 Day 11 – Las Vegas

We said cheerio to Di and headed off to San Francisco Airport for our 1pm flight to Las Vegas after dropping the car off. This was all unremarkable which was not how we would describe what came next!

It started with a taxi driver trying to take the ‘long way’ to the Paris Hotel and getting a little stroppy when a tip wasn’t in the offing. After settling in we agreed that we would do our own things and meet again at 7 for a walk down the ‘Strip’ and find somewhere to eat. Sabine and Ed ventured into the hotel casino and Linda and I chose to avoid the assault on our senses from the extraordinary noise and scenes that had greeted us as we entered the hotel. We duly scuttled off to our room to read and do the blog! (Really!!)

At 7 we duly headed off down the ‘Strip’ and it did not take long to work out that this town, although vibrant and astonishing (in some ways), appeared designed to make visitors part with as much of the cash as possible in as many ways as possible. It is, in our view, a gaudy and OTT playground with some very, very strange people or people with strange behaviour but hey that’s the spice of life I guess? We were relieved that we only had 2 nights here. Still we had a pleasant meal in Caesars Palace and after walking around, more in amazement than admiration, Sabine and Ed did Casino mark 2 and Linda and I went for a cocktail in the Vista piano bar before retiring for the night, my ears still ringing, full of expectation for tomorrow.
