This was what we had come here for, a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon. A slightly delayed pickup in a stretch limo was an interesting start before a safety briefing at Sundance. We were soon introduced to Jeffrey, our pilot, before getting photo’d and boarding the ‘bird’. This was a first for Ed and Sabine and it was a great pleasure to see the enjoyment they both had at the initial experience. The flight seemed to go very quickly and we were soon out over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, the man-made lake behind the dam into which the Colorado flows. Jeffrey was a good pilot, informative and witty. The views were tremendous, but nothing quite prepares you for the entry into the Grand Canyon and the setting down point for a light snack and glass of bubbles was quite magnificent.
After the obligatory selfies, and various posed photo’s we were back in the air again with Sabine and I in the front with a terrific view on the return leg. A flyby of downtown Vegas and the ‘Strip’ was impressive, the hotels are, if nothing else, huge and quite spectacular themselves. The evening was a sedate affair with a quiet (if such a thing was possible here!) meal and lights out for us at 9 pm, unfortunately 0615 flight means a stupid o’clock get up time. Still, Yellowstone beckons !!
