The day started with a slight detour on the way to the train station, to ensure Luke, Di’s son, was ok as he appeared to have had a slight vehicular mishap on his way to work. The previous night’s rain probably contributed. He was fine, car probably not so! A 10am train into the city was followed by the purchase of a 1-day multi ticket and a ride on the cable cars. These old, cable drawn, trams are typically tourist traps but hey, it had to be done and was a fun experience. Our first ride stopped close to Lombard Street and a reasonable walk ensued. It is a very hilly city!! Lombard Street is a narrow very windy downhill road which was interesting and quite pretty. From there we walked to China Town, via Nob Hill, taking in many of the sights and vistas.
After a bus ride and further short tram ride we arrived at Fisherman’s Wharf at about 6 pm. A very touristy area but again quite entertaining with really good views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate. We settled on the Pier Market restaurant for a seafood supper on Pier 39 before heading back. A final tram ride across the city to the BART station and the train back to Pleasanton. It would be fair to say we were, by then, a little tired!
