A leisurely breakfast was followed by an equally sedate drive to St Helena where we had a walk around the quaint old town, looking at rather expensive shops and resisting the attentions of an attractive estate agent trying to encourage us to consider a property nearby. We were not sure if we looked like the sort of people who had the odd few million dollars to spare!
In the afternoon we headed back south via the Marin Headland and our first view of San Francisco Bay. The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the San Francisco Peninsular were all quite spectacular even if the weather was a little overcast. We then parted company with Di and went across the bridge into the San Francisco proper. After a little more viewing we had an interesting tour of downtown as the Sat Nav had a slight ‘hissy fit’ when it could not see the sky properly!! Eventually we navigated our way out of the city and headed off to the Outlet centre at Livermore. Not exactly an ideal holiday destination but necessary to fulfil the shopping requirements both personal and those requested by offspring! We arrived back at Pleasanton lateish but eager to get back to the city in the morning.
