The day started with a return to the Hopyard to recover Linda’s handbag, phone and other items left behind. Sigh of relief before we had a quick journey up to Napa for a trip on the Wine Train with gourmet lunch. We were taken aback by the upmarket reception at the station, the splendidly restored train and our dining car which was glass roofed, thereby the tour was aptly named the ‘Vista Dome Lunch’. The setting was excellent, as was the food and wine that followed. A welcoming glass of bubbles was followed by a terrific 3 hours or so travelling from Napa to St Helena along the Napa Valley, passing many famous vineyards and great scenery along the way.
Between the main course and dessert, we had time to explore the train taking in the plush carriages and hanging off the viewing platform. The kitchens were a marvel of co-operation in a confined space and added to the admiration at the quality of food severed. The experience was all too soon ended and, on our return, we checked into the Riverside Terrace Inn to allow our lunch to settle. Di and Fred met us there and later in the evening we went for a walk through downtown Napa settling for a very enjoyable, light, dinner. A great day of relaxed sight-seeing, fine food and great company left us with souvenir memories and some very nice engraved champagne glasses.
